Allocations for higher education in Budget 2016 have been reduced.

The Budget 2016 hosted by Najib last November proposed a decrease in the allocation for higher education next year.

The provision is reduced by RM2.4 billion from RM15.785 billion to RM13.378 billion next year.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh explained that the reduction was caused by the inflation of Malaysia’s economic status due to the drop in currency and national oils.

The government however ensured that tuition fees at public universities would not hike as a result of this budget cut.
