More power for public universities in the future

The government is willing to grant more power to Public Universities (now UA, formerly IPTA) in regards to employment of staff, promotions and financial management, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The Prime Minister said public universities must find alternatives and generate financial resources to cover the escalating cost of university management due to increasing students.

He also wants universities to review market needs so that graduates produced can meet market demands of the industry be it public or private sectors.
