According to a study by Multimedia Development Corporation (MDec), Malaysia's demand for IT graduates will experience an annual growth rate of 18.6 per cent between 2010 and 2013 against a supply growth of only 2.7 per cent.  Computing technology will account for two-thirds of all job growth in all fields of science and technology in the future.

Delivering quality education through global partnerships

During the launch, UniMy's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr Halimaton Hamdan said that the university takes a new approach in higher education by creating a best-of-breed ecosystem through the help of their global partners such as Microsoft, IBM, EC Council, Huawei and Autodesk. Together with their partners, UniMy also offers professional certificates.

These global partners have agreed to collaborate on student development activities from design of curriculum, student projects, internship, teaching and learning technology to career placement. In the near future, UniMy will set up an Innovation and Commercialisation Centre to culminate ideas, people and funding all under one roof. The centre will be modeled after renowned research labs such as XeroxPalo Alto and MIT Media Lab.

Furthermore, UniMy collaborates with the University of Melbourne's School of Engineering. The partnership involves the adoption of quality control, academic board processes and external examination and later on development of faculty members, learning space as well as the commercialisation centre.

In addition to working with academic partners, UniMy has also collaborated with MDec, Kumpulan Modal Perdana Sdn Bhd (KMP), Cyberview Sdn Bhd and NanoMalaysia Bhd in various efforts to be a key institution in education and commercialisation of potential R&Ds in the future.

Courses available this year

UniMy offers an integrated 1+3+1 Computer Science and Engineering programme starting from Foundation, Bachelor and Master of Science. It has two undergraduate programmes - BS in Computer Science and BS in Software Engineering. Enrollment for Foundation studies and undergraduate programmes are expected to happen in May and September, respectively.

UniMy has a faculty to student ratio of 1:10 with a maximum capacity to take 3,000 students. Presently, UniMy operates from a temporary campus in Cyberjaya within the Multimedia Super Corridor, while plans are underway for its permanent campus to be built within Cyberjaya City Centre and to be completed by 2016.
