  • New minimum requirement expected to raise quality of teaching profession

Beginning this year, students from the peninsula interested to take up teaching profession must have 7As in their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) while students in Sabah and Sarawak must have at least 5As.

According to Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, the measure will enhance the teaching profession in line with the ministry's wish of having 30 per cent with good SPM results joining the profession.

Currently, the basic requirement is excellence in at least three subjects and a credit in three other subjects including Bahasa Melayu and History, as well as a pass in the English Language, besides special qualifications for the field of studies chosen.
