According to Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, the intake of students of these institutions is subject to approval by the senate of the respective universities, therefore implementing the new policy will be under the discretion of the senate.

He added that the public universities welcomed the new MUET policy, however due to the short period of implementation, consideration must be given.

Furthermore, the university senate has the power to determine the entry of students into the university as vested by the Universities and University Colleges Act.

Implementation of the new MUET policy will continue gradually starting from public varsities first. Two weeks ago, the government has announced that private institutions of higher education will not be implementing the higher MUET score requirement next year.
