Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine has cut its four-year alliance with Perdana University Graduate School of Medicine (PUGSOM), citing frequent late payments as the reason.
PUGSOM offered a four-year medical course in collaboration with Johns Hopkins, which reportedly cost RM800,000. The Public Service Department (JPA) sponsored students enrolled in the PUGSOM programme.
According to Johns Hopkins, the decision was difficult and unintentional but they had to because payments were often late. They added that payments were 12 months overdue when the partnership was terminated last month.
As of July 31,2014, the American medical institution is no longer associated with PUGSOM. PUGSOM will issue an official statement regarding this decision.
Johns Hopkins helped create a new model for medical education in Malaysia. They provided guidance and advice to PUGSOM and by assisting in teaching and in the initiation of the school.
