According to rector Prof. Datuk Dr Jamil Osman they had overlooked the matter. The fine was issued during after the Ministry of Higher Education made a spot-check at its Mergong campus.

The fine has to be settled next Tuesday. Failure would mean bringing the matter to court which will cost the institution up to RM1.7 million for illegally enrolling the 34 students.

The university college is now in deep financial trouble which has caused late salary payments for its staff and lecturers. Its main campus in Kuala Ketil in Sungai Petani may also fail to provide accommodation for its students. Jamil said they will try to complete the hostel before deadline and if not, they would rent them (students) places to stay.
