Indonesian university to award former prime minister of Malaysia

Universitas Bung Karno and Soekarno Education Foundation (YPS) gives former Malaysian prime minister the Star of Soekarno award this 27 September 2015.

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad will receive the Star of Soekarno award this Sunday.

The award is given by the Universitas Bung Karno, a private university in Jakarta, named after the first president of Indonesia, Soekarno. It was established by YPS in 1999.

The award is given to recognise his contributions in developing Malaysia, according to YPS founder Rachmawati Sukarnoputri at the Perdana Leadership Foundation last week.

Previous recipients of the award include nationalists and presidents such as the third Indonesian President Prof. Dr Ing. BJ Habibie, Dr Sun Yat Sen and Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh.
