Last Friday, Heriot-Watt University launched its eco-friendly campus in Malaysia. The new campus costs RM191 million to build and is the institution's second international campus after Dubai.
The UK-based university's new campus will cater for up to 4,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. It is initially offering nine courses focusing on engineering and accountancy.
Joining Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh at the launch was British High Commissioner for Malaysia Vicki Treadell, who emphasised Britain’s historical ties with Malaysia, particularly in education.
About two years ago, Heriot-Watt opened its temporary campus in the city of Putrajaya. During this initial stage, the university brought international talent and expertise into their campus as well as recruited staff locally.
Unlike other institutions’ branch campuses that offer only limited programmes from their main campus, Heriot-Watt University Malaysia will offer the whole package from their Putrajaya campus. The programmes offered in Malaysia has the same content as campuses in Dubai and Edinburgh.
Heriot-Watt University is well-known internationally. Rated as a leading research university by the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), Heriot-Watt University has been named Scottish University of the Year for the second consecutive year by the Sunday Times, which also ranked it first in the UK for student experience.
