Xiamen University to set up first Chinese branch campus in Malaysia

  • Branch campus to be operational in September 2015 and will take in 10,000 students 
  • Faculties of engineering, medicine, ICT, business and language and literature to be made available

Top university in China, Xiamen University has chosen Malaysia for its first branch campus location. Operational by September 2015, the branch campus will be located in a 150-acre site at Salak Tinggi.Quoted by the Star, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said that the Malaysian government has given approval in principle to Xiamen University to set up its first campus in the country.  The Prime Minister added that by early February, an agreement for the establishment of the branch campus would be signed during the launch of the Kuantan Industrial Park in Pahang.The branch campus is expected to take in 10,000 students of which Malaysians, Chinese and Asean/Non-Asean members will represent one-third each of the enrollment population.Furthermore the branch campus will have five faculties - electrical bio-engineering and chemical engineering, medical school, ICT, Business and Economics, and Chinese language and literature.Xiamen University is the first university in China founded by a Chinese based overseas.
