Egypt's Al-Azhar University will be admitting its first intake of 300 Malaysian students in September next year. Its temporary branch campus is in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.
The university is known as the centre of Islamic learning with emphasis on the Qurán and Islamic law.
"Students who want to pursue studies at Al-Azhar, can gain admission without having to go to Egypt", said Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh.
Its permanent international campus will be established in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan and will accomodate 10,000 students pursuing Usuluddin, Syariah (Islamic law) and Arabic courses.
