A New Public University in Sibu to prepare Sarawakians for SCORE
- The Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) will generate more jobs in the future. By year 2030, at least 100,000 more engineers and 500,000 skilled workers will be needed.
- To meet demand for skilled workers, a technological university to be named University Teknologi Sarawak will be established in the town of Sibu.
- This will prepare the youth and help secure jobs that could earn up to RM10,000 a month. For welders, the starting salary would be around RM2,000 per month.
- To speed up the process of equipping Sarawakians for SCORE, the state’s current tertiary institutions have already forged ties with foreign universities such as India’s BS Abdur Rahman University (BSAU), a leading engineering institution based in Chennai.
- Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), and Sarawak Skills Development Centre (PPKS) have all signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with BSAU.
