86 top scorers in SPM will now be offered places in twinning programmes

  • Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz said that the top flight students will be given places in twinning programmes of private universities, which will eventually send them overseas.
  • The government would have spent RM14.8million had they send students to local universities under programmes that they're unhappy with.
  • On the other hand, RM52.1million would be spent if they sent them overseas.
  • However, the offer to study under private universities in twimming programmes to the top scorers would cost RM 21.6million. 1,500 top students were offered spots in overseas universities under the PSD scholarship.

The number of scholarships offered to top students in local private universities are:

Malay ------ 3 students

Chinese ------ 71 students

Indian ------ 11 students

Bumiputera Sarawak ------ 1 student

TOTAL ------ 86 STUDENTS

According to another table, it was shown that medicine was the most popular followed by engineering and pharmaceutical studies. The table also shows students were scattered to different institutions:

International Medical University ------ 18 students

Monash University, Sunway ------ 15 students

Royal College of Medicine Perak ------ 1 student

Engineering

Multimedia University ------ 13 students

University of Technology Petronas ------ 12 students

Monash University, Sunway ------ 7 students

Pharmacy

Taylor's University ------ 11 students

Science

Monash University, Sunway ------ 2 students

Economics

Multimedia University ------ 2 students

Accountancy

Multimedia University ------ 2 students

Biotechnology

Monash University, Sunway ------ 1 student

Business Management

University of Nottingham ------ 1 student

TOTAL ------ 86 students

Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz also said that he, along with a committee, is to award the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scholarship to other top scorers for SPM.
