4,000 scholarships given to SPM holders of 2010
- The Public Service Department (PSD) has given 1,500 scholarships under the overseas degree programme (PILN) and 2,500 scholarships under the local degree programme (PIDN) to SPM holders last year.
- 882 Bumiputera students and 618 non-Bumiputera students were given scholarships.
- For PIDN, 1,301 Bumiputera students and 1,199 non-Bumiputera students were awarded the scholarships.
- 10% allocation of scholarships to Sabah and Sarawak Bumiputera students were maintained, of which 75 from Sabah were given PILN.
- The government has set aside RM1.44 billion for PSD scholarships (RM0.36 billion for local studies and RM1.08 billion for overseas studies).
- Medicine and engineering were both popular choices amongst SPM holders of 2010.
- The existing policy for scholarship distribution is expected to be reviewed and improved.
