Putrajaya: Considering the rising COVID-19 cases in Malaysia, examinations for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM) and Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) this year will be postponed.
The examinations will be held from Feb 22nd, next year, said Senior Minister (Education) Dr Radzi Jidin, while examination for Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia will begin March 8th 2021.
With these decisions in mind, the ministry hopes that this would benefit the candidates who have been affected by the school closure, according to Jidin during a media conference on “Operations of Education Institutions under the Education Ministry and Public Examinations 2020.”
On Saturday, the Malaysia government announced the extension of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), affecting schools who must remain closed until 18th December.
This announcement was met with criticism from both parents and students, who urges the government to “make firm decisions on the dates and have a comprehensive plan B if the conditional movement control order (CMCO) continues”.
Form Five students have reported anxiety and stress from the ever shifting dates. On Twitter, one went out to tweet that “Everyone keep saying that batch 03 can get straight A's for SPM because it has been delayed again but they don't know how we struggle with online classes, distractions even stress.”
Regardless, the ministry has decided that the candidates would resume school session from Jan 20th to assist them prepare adequately before sitting for the public examinations.
