With rumours previously rife of KADS1M applications having been opened - which were subsequently denied by Bank Rakyat - and confusion arising as to whether the Baucer Buku 1 Malaysia would be making a come back after the 2018 Budget was announced, a Facebook post by one member of the Barisan Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar UniMAP yesterday may have given us a clue on what to expect, suggesting that KADS1M will indeed be the way moving forward.
In the post, the UniMAP student and fellow student representatives were present at the Keep in Touch programme, which was held in the presence of the Minister of Higher Education, Dato' Seri Idris Jusoh. In the open dialogue session that followed, the student went on to state that they recommended that KADS1M be retained instead of reintroducing the Baucer Buku 1 Malaysia, a suggestion that Dato' Seri Idris Jusoh agreed with. However, there has been no official word on this matter just yet.
Dato' Seri Idris Jusoh also mentioned that it is estimated that the financial assistance (bantuan kewangan) that has been promised will be banked into respective student's accounts on March 15, 2018 with RM 300,000,000 having been allocated for this. Students who have registered (an estimated 400,000) need not update their accounts, as the money will be banked in directly. Students uncertain if they qualify can check with Bank Rakyat. This was also picked up in an article that was run by Sinar Online which directly quoted the Minister of Higher Education, as well as posted on the official FB page of the MOHE.
For those who have yet to receive their KADS1M, the post goes on to state that they will have to register to receive KADS1M. The difference between last year and 2018 is that KADS1M can be picked up at any Bank Rakyat branch nationwide.
These were the requirements in 2017:
We will update this story as it develops. You may find the FB post below
For those wondering how students may apply for KADS1M in 2018, a quick check on the official KADS1M website revealed that while there is no official statement just yet, we can expect one soon.
"What about me, I applied in 2017 and I didn't get my card!". Is that you? If so, then we've got some bad news. According to Bank Rakyat, matters pertaining to 2017 KADS1M applications were only permitted to be handled till November 30, 2017. While Bank Rakyat haven't directly confirmed this and remained vague in their reply social media afterwards, it looks like those who did not receive their cards in 2017 will have to re-apply. We will update this article accordingly as more information filters through.
