College Admissions for Engineering and Vocational Education 2013 now Open

  • Form three students who will sit for the Lower Secondary Assessment (PMR) 2012 and are interested in taking technical and vocational courses for 2013 are invited to apply now.
  • The Education Ministry's division of Vocational Technical Education provides four main streams:

  1. Technical Education - suited to students who excel in both academics and PMR; aims to produce professionals in engineering and non-engineering (agriculture and trade). Upon graduation, students can pursue a higher diploma in public institutions - universities, polytechnices, community colleges, matriculation, or Form 6
  2. Vocational Education - suited to students who are moderately good in academics and interested in learing vocational courses. Vocational contents have theoretical and practical components and its objectives is to produce semi-professionals in engineering and non-engineering fields. Upon graduation, students can either work or continue studies in public/private institutions.
  3. Skills Training - suited for students who are more into practical, hands-on learning. Upon graduation, students will be awarded the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM), which is recognised by the industry.
  4. Vocational Basic Education - offers up to 11 courses covering servicing motorcycle, clothing and sewing, automotive, furniture making, planting, refrigeration and air conditioning, aquaculture, food preparation and presentation, electrical wiring, interior and visual design and animation.

General & Specific Requirements

  • Applicants must be Malaysian citizens
  • Form 3 students who will be sitting for PMR 2012 or those sitting for the trial examination PMR 2012
  • Must be physically fit
  • Free from diseases such as heart problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.
  • For Engineering, applicants must not be colour blind
  • Category A - Obtained at least Grade B in the PMR in Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics, Science and Life Skills
  • Category B - Obtained at least Grade C in the PMR in Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics, Science and Life Skills
  • Category C - Obtained at least Grade D in the PMR in Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics, Science and Life Skills
  • Skills training - low achievement in the PMR trial

Application

  • Application to SMT and KV can be made in two ways:
  • Online through the website of the Ministry of Education in the Online Application System to High School Technical /Vocational College 2013 .
  • Manually by visiting the nearby SMT or KV. Application forms can be obtained in situ.
  • Hostel facilities are available in almost all SMT and KV except KV Kuching and SMK Sultan Abdul Samad. Despite this hostel facilities subject to the limits set for each school.
