Malaysian employees value salary over career advancement, says survey

  • Survey indicates that the average Malaysian employee considers salary to be the most important aspect of their working life, even beyond career advancement opportunities and intellectually-stimulating work

JobsCentral surveyed 3,194 working professionals in the Klang Valley and found that monthly income is the most important attribute in their careers. Other work attributes such as interesting work, advancement opportunities and good relations with colleagues ranked second, third and fourth. This means respondents prefer immediate rewards over training and skill-building initiatives.

Respondents were then asked how satisfied they are with their current jobs. Results show that when it came to their colleagues, most of them were happy working with them.

Of the total respondents, 65% were female and 35% male. The age group range from 16 to 61+ with 64.2% belonging to the 21-30 year old range.  Ninety-one per cent of respondents work in private organisations whereas the remaining work for government.
