Financial issues should not deter you from pursuing your dream career in veterinary. There are a few institutions to choose from within the Southeast Asian region for veterinary medicine.
Three such JPA-accredited institutions in Indonesia offer veterinary medicine, namely Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR).
IPB has a comprehensive veterinary medicine curriculum that covers anatomy, physiology, reproduction, pathology and pharmacology. It also gives exposure to areas such as the science of animal diseases, veterinary public health and clinical site. It is also the only veterinary school in Indonesia to specialize in horses for topographic and surgical anatomy.
The UGM Faculty of Veterinary was established in 1946 and staffs a group of animal health experts and master/doctorate students with high qualifications in veterinary medicine. Since 2007, the faculty has also implemented a Problem-Based Learning curriculum as a way of teaching the course critically. UGM is also one of the best universities in Indonesia.
The second-oldest university in Indonesia, UNAIR was established in 1948. It began with two faculties – Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry. Since then, the institution has also offered veterinary medicine and currently houses a university hospital for the programme.
