The ministry of higher education announced today that the results of application for public universities for STPM, Matriculation, Foundation (Asasi) leavers, for the academic year 2016/2017 are available and can be viewed from August 8th onwards.Dr Asma Ismail

Applicants can check the results by visiting the UPU main web portal. Students may also check their results by sending an SMS to 15888 and type UPU RESULTS (IC NUMBER). Candidates may also contact this number for further assistance 03-8870 6767.

According to Higher Education director-general Datuk Prof Dr Asma Ismail, 58,011 applications were received and 94.2% of the applicant are eligible candidates meeting the general admission requirements for public universities.

Among the qualified candidates, a total of 39,862 (73%) received offers and 3,873 candidates with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.00 received offers at Public Universities.

“The Ministry takes this opportunity to congratulate the successful applicants who have received an offer,” said Dr Asma in her announcement.

There are 18 public universities in the announcement from earlier today in coordination with the Higher Education Department’s Student Intake Management Division. This announcement did not include Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Universiti Malaya (UM) as they have an independent admission process.

The formal offer letters are will be issued on August 9th and universities expect to receive confirmation from successful candidates within 10 days. Last day for responses is set to be on August 22nd.

There is still one more step for candidates to be evaluated by their respective universities where the completion of application has to meet the order of merits and programme of choice. If candidates do not possess the merits that correspond to their programme of choice, the likelihood of not receiving an offer for that programme is high.

Dr Asma said that candidates must expect high competition among the applicants and a candidate may end up with no offer from the chosen public university.

Unsuccessful candidates in this can submit an appeal via UPU Online e-Rayuan Portal.

University Malaysia Sabah

The window for appeal is opened for 5 days from August 8th's afternoon until August 12th 11.59 midnight. The appeal results will be subject to the available seats in accordance with the study programmes chosen by candidates at the selected public university. If the appeal has no respond from a public university by September 13th, the appeal is considered to have failed. The results of the appeal will be published on August 25th and September 13th.

The registration of students should be completed between August 28th and September 4th.

We wish all the candidates the best of luck in their applications. We would like to extend our congratulations to those who have received offers at public universities. And to those who need to appeal, we sincerely hope that you will get a satisfactory result. And for those who have not succeeded in their attempts, remember, it is not the end of the line.
