Professors who has not renewed their contract still can contribute actively to the academic world, said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh.
National Professors Council (MPN) reported 156 contract professors aged 61 to 70 years in public universities, are not renewing their contract due to financial constraints.
During the European Union Conference on Higher Education, Idris Jusoh stated that there is plenty of room in the academic fields that professors can explore.
He believes that professors who are no longer under contract could still contribute actively to society, for example, through publishing books about their respective fields or work with universities and the private sector.
The conference organized by the EU serves as a platform for University representatives to address issues such as the endorsement of study; joint and double degrees initiatives; financing; mobility of academic staff; and university-enterprise corporation between the EU and Malaysia.
