University Students To Still Return to Campus on March 1

Published by Afterschool.my on Jan 13, 2021, 11:24 am

In response to the recent enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO), Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) nationwide, higher education students are understandably concerned about their enrolment.

However, the Ministry of Higher Education recently announced that operations for institutes of higher education (IPTA) shall remain as previously announced.

Students are allowed to return to campus as early as March 1 and international students (bar those from the United Kingdom) may enter Malaysia by January 1. Meanwhile students already in campus are advised to stay and continue their studies using a hybrid mode of online learning and physical classes.

In a statement released yesterday, international examinations and examinations for professional bodies will be allowed to be held on campus. In addition, students with needs such as clinical studies, professional examinations, lab, studio, practical or internet access and such are allowed as well.

IPT will issue letters granting special permission to enable students with needs to apply for permission from the authorities to travel across states or districts to return to campus. The ministry also said all research activities involving lab facilities will be allowed through the permission given by the head of department in compliance with strict standard operating procedures, while students outside of campus who are conducting research activities will have to obtain letters from their respective IPTs for permission to enter and exit the campus.

Lastly, the ministry urged for academic activities on campus to be carried out with full compliance to the SOPs and with a priority on safety measures and in line with the new normal such as wearing face masks, using sanitisation liquid and physical distancing.
