UM climbs in Asian universities ranking
- Universiti Malaya achieved its highest ranking yet in the QS Asian University Ranking 2012, taking 35th spot among 300 universities assessed
- It has improved from the 42nd place in 2010 to the 39th in last year, achieving more improvements this year
- The top university in Asia is Hong Kong University of Science and Technology followed by the National University of Singapore (NUS)
- The QS Asian University Ranking was carried out in 2009 to rank the top 200 Asian Universities
- UM vice-chancellor Prof Gauth Jasmon asserted that UM would be among the top 100 world ranked universities within 5 years
- UM managed to enter the list of top 200 universities in the world, in the 167th position
- The QS World University Rankings for 2012/2013 are yet to be announced
