Well, orientation week is a very fun and exciting process. This is the time when you will make new friends, explore new places and be independent.
To ensure that you will have a smooth journey, Afterschool.my shares some tips to ace your orientation week like a boss.
Having a positive mindset is the first step to a happy life as a student. Do not be afraid to try new things. Who knows you might discover your hidden talent!
Introduce yourself to as many new people, including new friends, seniors and lecturers. This helps to eliminate your shyness and act as a platform for you to be more expressive.
Use your orientation time to get advise from your seniors who usually organise the programme to help make your university life easier. For example, ask questions like "Which cafe serves the most delicious meals?" or "Where are the best spots for WiFi?" or "Where are the best places to study?" and "Can you sell me your old text books for cheap?"
If you feel the behaviour of some people (seniors, teachers, friends) cross your physical and mental boundaries or personal space; or if you feel threatened in any way, speak out to other friends, guidance counsellor, etc. Bullying is a severe offence and it is NEVER your fault nor can you prevent it (unless you're a bully yourself, then STOP).
Here are anti-bullying links to help you get through:
Kempen Anti Buli Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia
Rage Against Bullying
UNICEF.org Malaysian Anti-Bullying Campaign
Malaysian Psychiatric Association
