Many fail in the UPU Online application due to wrong strategies when selecting study program options. So through this article we’ll share with you tips to increase your chances of succeeding in the application by arranging the study program options accurately.
For example, there are 8 public universities offering medical courses in Malaysia and the competition for a place in this course is extremely intense. If you think that getting a 4.00 CGPA is sufficient for the university to accept your application through UPU, you are wrong. There are thousands of exceptional applicants applying for the same course of study and less than 50-100 seats are offered by each university.
Therefore, chances of securing a seat is slim. To improve your chances, following are some tips:
Arrange Your Top Choices of Study Programmes Accordingly
Let's say you want to apply for a medical course, choose a medical course first and then followed by other courses that may be related to medicine and health such as bio medicine, pharmacy or vice versa, depending on your preference.
You have to put in your first choice at the top because UPU will screen your application by checking the eligibility requirements set for the first option. If you meet the eligibility requirements but your merit marks are lower than other applicants, UPU will move on and screen your second choice. This process will be repeated and if you do not succeed in securing any of your choices, you will fail your UPU application.
It is possible to make an appeal however you need to know that during the appeal, the choice of study programmes available are limited. The remaining courses that people do not apply for will be offered to you. To understand the screening process by UPU, we have written an article that you can read: Meritocracy Method Determines the Fate of UPU Applicants!
Choose Less Popular Universities
Most students will select a popular, prestigious and well reputable university when applying through UPU. If you want to succeed in the UPU Online application, you should never select a popular university in your first choice as the competition is fierce especially for courses like medicine, pharmacy and engineering. You will be competing against thousands of outstanding students. So, choose a less popular university for the particular course of study because at the end of the day, it doesn't matter which university you graduate from as long as your qualification is recognised and accredited.
If you have failed to obtain an offer to a public university, there are still other pathways you can opt for to further your higher studies. Here are 5 different ways you can still further your higher education.
