Time to bring back PPSMI, says former PM

With government aiming to get more students to take STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects, it is expected that Learning of Science and Mathematics in English (PPSMI) policy in schools should be practised once again.

According to the former Malaysian Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad the country will be left behind if its people lack the command of the English language.

"If we want knowledge, especially in science and mathematics, we must use English because most of the knowledge is in this lanugage," he was quoted saying this at a conference held at Wadi Sofea College (WaSC), Thursday.

English language is a dominant business language and is the official language in a large number of countries. Furthermore, is is the best language to be used to teach maths, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal.
