Talent development for ICT industry to be emphasised next year

Published by Afterschool.my on Dec 24, 2013, 10:48 am

Malaysia's Information and Communications Technology (ICT) market is expected to reach RM95 billion by 2017, as predicted by National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM)

Factors that will help realise this goal are the globalisation of the Malaysian ICT industry, increasing competitiveness, human capital development, leading the digital trend, enhancing value to members and accelerating growth of the Malaysian ICT demand.

Next year, PIKOM will focus on building the professionalisation of the ICT sector and enabling more ICT engagements in the private and public sectors. Moreover, PIKOM will address the talent shortage through ICT career campaigns, certification programmes and collaboration with tertiary educational institutions.

Skills shortage in the ICT industry is not only happening in Malaysia. In Australia, skills shortage will grow by an additional 21,000 ICTjobs by the end of 2013.
