Taylor's College Sri Hartamas students organised an event recently to raise a minimum amount of RM7,500 for the Siddharthan Care Centre and Sinthamani Divine Life Ashram.
Started in 2009, the Jog For Hope is an annual charity jog-a-thon founded by the Tree Huggers Club involving pre-university students of Taylor’s College. The annual jog-a-thon emerged after a visit to Spastic Children Association of Selangor & Federal Territory (SCASFT). The poor condition of the 50-year-old building sparked the idea to fundraise through a jog-a-thon for the redevelopment program of SCASFT.
Since then, the jogging event became an annual way of raising funds as well as promoting community service and a healthy lifestyle among Taylor’s College students, staff and its surrounding community. In the first three years itself, the Jog for Hope project successfully raised a total of RM85,000 for various other non-governmental organisations. The general aim is to help these organisations continue their work within their community.
As a 2014 participant said, “I think today [it] is not so much about winning, but more about doing our bit to help the less fortunate. My passion is running, and I’m glad I get to help others by doing what I like.”
The event is usually held at Taylor's College Sri Hartamas, a branch campus of Taylor's College set up since 2008. Taylor's College offers the following Pre-University programmes: Cambridge A Levels, South Australian Matriculation and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
