Based on a report by Berita Harian, starting from Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) 2016 and Malaysian University English Test (MUET) July session 2016, candidates are banned from wearing watches or bringing in watches into the examination hall.
Dr Jamil Adimin, Chief Excutive of the Malaysian Examinations Council said that the ban from bringing or wearing a watch to the examination hall is meant to prevent any misconduct among the candidates.
In contrast, Minister of Education Datuk Seri Mahadzir Khalid stated that he does not see the reason and need for the ban.
"I do not see the need for the ban from bringing watches in the examination hall. Is the ban for all types of watches or certain types only?
"We will call the Malaysian Examinations Council for further clarification and I admit that many are questioning the ban," said Mahadzir.
