Industries popular among graduates such as oil and gas, media and banking industry were contacted by a Berita Harian journo, Che Wan Badrul Alias ??in studying this phenomenon.
Although not considered a serious offense, recruitment officers (Human Resources / HR) said that graduates who include selfies (especially ones enhanced via manipulation of photo editors such as Camera360) give a negative first impression during interviews and they consider them dishonest, less confident and less mature.
Motivation expert Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Dr Fauziah Mohd Saad, said from a psychological aspect, the graduates who do such things may have low self-confidence.
Elaborating, Fauziah said, graduates should be aware of choosing an occupation that not only focuses on looks or personality only, but on their academic studies, human skills and expertise in the required fields.
She also added that these graduates fear of community disapproval or act like this after a number of rejections.
"Occupation is reality, so graduates need to be mature and act wisely to seize the opportunity for success.
"These individuals need to be assisted in order to accentuate their true selves and learn how to face the challenges of public rejection, so I advise the graduates involved to enroll in programmes or courses to increase their self-confidence," she said.
