Choosing to go down the path of stethoscopes, long flowing white coats with even longer hours is potentially one of the most difficult decisions some will ever contemplate. The only dilemma that is perhaps more pressing? Choosing a medical school to see the path through. While the old guard of prime medical universities in the country remain coveted by all aspiring Malaysian doctors, some will have to decide on going abroad to obtain that hallowed medical degree, and with that, creeps up the constant risk of choosing an institution which is not recognised by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).
That is where the Second Schedule comes into play. What is it you ask? Well, if you're a student suspicious as to whether a certain medical institution is accredited here in Malaysia, then it's your personal Holy Grail. The Second Schedule has a list of every medical institution worldwide that is accredited here in Malaysia. In simple terms, if you attend one of these, you will have no issues when you inevitably need to register with the MMC for your housemanship, other than the long wait of course.
Click here for the latest edition of the Second Schedule, updated as of May 25, 2017.
Oh, for those of you who are enrolled in universities which isn't on the list, fret not!
