  • Putra Business School's new curriculum aims to narrow the gap between the academia and current business by introducing the concept of human leadership
  • The business school is the first in the country and sixth in Southeast Asia to receive AACSB accreditation

After six years of constant assessment, the Putra Business School (Putra) of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is now an accredited member of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Putra is the first in the country to receive such accreditation and the sixth university awarded in Southeast Asia.

“The accreditation shows that we are among the best business schools at the regional and international level,” said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin who attended the celebratory dinner.“With this achievement, I hope UPM will take the lead in guiding the development of other business schools in the country,” he said after receiving a token of appreciation from AACSB president and chief executive officer John J. Fernandes.Recognising the need to improve business management education, Putra hopes to lead the country's transformation agenda in business management by reintroducing the concept of "human leaders"."We want to offer a view on business management based on what can be seen as Eastern values, combining spirituality with science," said Putra Business School President Prof. Arfah Salleh."It's important to bring back the appropriate philosophy and moral awareness into business management education to address the flaws of today's business practices."During the certificate presentation, the Putra Business School (PBS) of Universiti Putra Malaysia was also endorsed by the Higher Education Ministry as an autonomous business school, allowing them freedom in student and faculty selection.
“We hope to build a more industry-based programme, where our faculty will be drawn from those with many years of experience in the industry rather than among those from the academic community,” said UPM’s Vice-Chancellor Datuk Dr. Radin Umar Radin Sohadi.
“We want to bring the business world into the classroom,” he said after receiving the certificate of endorsement. The event ceremony was held last night at the Hilton in Kuala Lumpur.
