  • Proposal to make 1Malaysia Book Voucher and 1Malaysia student card available to Malaysian students studying abroad in the pipeline
  • More than 79,000 Malaysians are studying abroad

Malaysian students abroad should be entitled to receive the RM250 1Malaysia Book Voucher (BB1M), said Malaysian Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Senator Gan Ping Sieu.

This proposal will be brought up with the Finance Ministry, he said, adding that the students should also be able to enjoy the advantages of the 1Malaysia student discount card (KADS1M).

"Our students overseas should be able to enjoy the same benefits," he added. There are more than 79,000 Malaysians are studying abroad, according to 2010 statistics from the Ministry of Higher Education.

When tabling Budget 2013 on 28 September, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had said that the BB1M programme would continue to be implemented for pre-university students and those in institutions of higher learning, with an addition of RM50 to RM250.
