A research study has confirmed that proficiency in English language skills affects the amount of salary paid
A study carried out by Euromotor International for the British council confirmed that those with higher proficiency in the language could have an increase of 25% in their salary
Five developing countries were selected for this research. They are Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Cameroon and Rwanda.
"This is particularly true for professionals within a client-facing role where communication skills are vital, good English skills will help them articulate and sell their ideas better. It will also aid them in working in a multinational corporation, where they need to communicate with various nationalities," said Professional recruitment consultancy Robert Walters Malaysia country manager Sally Raj.
Accenture Human Resources Lead for Malaysia Chua Chai Peng noted that English is the main language used worldwide and employers are having difficulties of finding local graduates with a good command in the language.
