A five-year collaboration was signed between University of Malaya (UM) and Harvard University in the search for more effective treatment of lung diseases through nanomedicine.
This joint research is led by Joseph Brain, professor of environmental physiology. This research will include treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD), a disease with 80% cases caused by cigarette smoking.
Science Advisor to the Prime Minister Prof Zakri Abdul Hamid is enthusiastic about the collaboration and underlined that the country, "through the Malaysia Institute for Innovative Nanotechnology (NanoMITe), is proud and excited to join the Harvard team and contribute to the creation of these life-giving innovation."
