Private institutions that offer law programmes in Malaysia

In Malaysia, law degrees have always been among the most sought-after and widely respected courses to study. In response to this, we made a survey and found out how much a law degree cost in a private institution of higher learning. Here are our findings:

Brickfields  Asia College (Law School) provides the most complete list of law programs in Malaysia. Students who wish to earn a LLB (Hons) degree from a world class British university can count onBAC's UK transfer programmes. BAC has solid partnerships with prestigious institutions such as the University of London, University of Cambrdige, University of Aberystwyth, University of Liverpool, University of Hull, and more.

BACalso provides an invaluable opportunity for students to qualify as a lawyer in the fastest and smartest way possible. By enrolling inBAC’s A-Level Express Route, where students may customize their programs, students may complete the course in 11 months instead of the traditional 18 or 24 months.

HELP University offers its own home-grown LLB programme known as Bachelor of Laws (HELP LLB). Graduates who complete the HELPLLB degree will be granted the opportunity to enrol in any post graduate Master’s Programme at HELPgraduate school. Meanwhile, its UK degree transfer programme  enables students to pursue a prestigious law degree at HELP University.

This program is designed and conducted to a standard corresponding with that of their prestigious UK partner universities, namely the University of the West of England, Bristol, Cardiff University, Aberystwyth University, University of Liverpool, University of Sheffield, University of Manchester, Northumbria University, University of Hertfordshire and University of Leeds.

At Taylor’s Law School, they offer students two pathways to obtain their Bachelor of Laws degree. They can opt to graduate with the Taylor’s Bachelor of Laws (all 3 years in Taylor’s University, which is currently not recognised for legal practice) or transfer to one of our six articulation partners (after completing 1 year or 2 years in Taylor’s University). Taylor'sarticulation partners are University of Manchester, University of Sheffield, Cardiff University, University of Leeds, University of Reading and University of the West of England.

These UK partners (and their Law Degrees) are currently in the LPQB’s list of recognised UK universities for CLP purposes. In addition, these UK articulation pathways from Taylor’s University are validated by the UK Joint Academic Stage Board (JASB), the body responsible for the validation and review of qualifying law degrees for the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) in the UK.

Multimedia University produced its first batch of law students in 2008. It is the first private university in Malaysia to be exempted from the CLP examination. Its law school is located in Malacca. Currently, MMUhas a student population of more than 21,000 with more than 3,000 international students from 80 different countries around the globe.

The UK Degree Transfer Programme (Law) at INTI International University is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in Legal Studies as well as optional subjects to suit your personal interests and career plans. Students will learn the techniques of legal research and writing, and have access to complete and extensive Law resources which includes Electronic Law Databases, law journals and reports. INTI's UK partner university law degrees are recognised by the Bar Standards Board in the UK as well as the Legal Profession Qualifying Board of Malaysia which conducts the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) examination. Among INTI's prestigious partner universities are the University of Manchester, the University of Leeds, the University of Liverpool, Cardiff University, and more.

KDU University College is one of the few affiliate centres for the University of London International Programmes in Malaysia. Pursuing an LLB degree under the University of London International Programmes offers students flexibility as they can choose to complete the programme at your own pace (up to a maximum of five years) and also to take exams in many locations throughout the world. The University of London Bachelor of Laws degree is internationally recognised and respected by both law practitioners and academics.

Meanwhile, the twinning programme offered by Oxford Brookes University andKDU University College gives students a thorough grounding in all the core subjects needed to practise as a lawyer, both in Malaysia and the United Kingdom. The degree conferred upon successful completion of your studies is validated by both the UK Bar and the UK Law Society.

ATC is one of the fastest growing independent Private Law School in this region with two campuses in Malaysia, one in Singapore and one joint venture partnership in Hong Kong. The University of London International Programme is a 3-year program that requires students to complete 4 subjects each year. It is designed to give students flexibility as it allows students who already have a degree / equivalent in another field to apply to the Graduate Entry Route, which provides a 3 subject exemption for eligible students.

Selangor International Islamic University College (KUIS) is a private college wholly-owned subsidiary of Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS). Since its inception in 1995, KUIS has grown from 60 students to 5,000 students. KUIS’s 5,064 graduates include many international students from ASEAN and African countries as well as China. The University currently offers masters, bachelor’s degree, diploma and foundation programmes ranging from business studies, accountancy, Islamic banking, human resource management, information and technology, multimedia, networking, communications, nursing, Islamic studies, language and education.
