In Malaysia, there is a growing demand for graduates in the biomedical sciences within the health services and industry. Students who are keen to working as part of research & development teams can find employment in these industries - pharmaceuticals, chemical, cosmetics & toiletries, biotechnology, and food & beverage. Meanwhile, students who plan to further their degree (either by taking master's or PhD) after finishing their bachelor's, can expect a more senior role when they start to embark on permanent employment.
Here's a quick overview of private universities that are offering degree programmes in biomedical science:
MAHSA (Malaysian Allied Health Science Academy) University was established in 2005. Since then MAHSA has reaped awards such as the Doctorjob’s Award for Most Popular College/University for Nursing in the year 2009 and NAPEI Award for University and University College Large Category for two consecutive years in a row (2009 & 2010).
The School of Biomedical Sciences at University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus (UNMC) was established in 2010. The biomedical sciences school is home to among the world's brightest undergraduate students. International Medical University (IMU) is among the pioneer private universities in Malaysia that offer both conventional and complementary medicine. Asia Metropolitan University (AMU) was previously known as Masterskill University College of Health Sciences (MUCH). Currently, AMU offers over 30 different types of programme ranging from certificate, bachelor degree, to postgraduate, including a top-up degree programme in Nursing, Diploma as well as Foundation programmes.
Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) is a private university. It has three campuses in the Klang Valley and one in Kampar, Perak. All its campuses have wireless access to the Internet, high-end laboratory equipment for teaching and research; and computer labs. UTAR has been awarded the MSC Malaysia Status Institution by the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and the ‘Excellence in Increasing Student Enrolment (2003-2005) for Private Institutions of Higher Learning with University Status’ by the Ministry of Higher Education.
