Police in Malaysia claims that they do not have the power to detain students who smoke e-cigarettes (vape) in school.
State deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm T. Narenasagaran said that until now there has been no act to say that vape is an offense and against the law.
"At school students are not allowed to smoke and Vape is considered the same offense. But outside of school compounds they have always been able to smoke freely as there are no laws for this offense yet," he said.
Narenasagaran however, said he felt that studies should be conducted in order to make smoking Vape illegal among school students.
"We know that smoking Vape does not bring benefit and is actually harmful. The education ministry should carry out the the study and PDRM can assist."
