"Plastic" professors proliferating in Malaysia

Malaysia currently has 2,349 professors recognized by the Majlis Profesor Negara (MPN) - 1,990 in public universities and 359 in private institutions.

During the launch of the Guideline to Usage of the Professor Title (Garis Panduan Penggunaan Gelaran Profesor), the event's CEO Prof Datuk Dr Raduan Che Ros said that publishing the book was crucial to prevent the misuse of the title to deceive the public.

Which is why recently the health ministry had warned people not to be fooled by some alternative treatment clinic or beauty center owners misusing the Professor or Dr title. Upon inspection, the Ministry of Health had found that the titles were inappropriately used.
