No more guarantees for teacher trainees

Published by Afterschool.my on May 28, 2013, 10:26 am

  • The noblest of all professions is up for a face lift to make it a highly competitive job for high achievers

To ensure that only quality trainees become school teachers, the Ministry of Education (MOE) plans to drop the job guarantee given to trainees from Teacher Training Institutes (IPG) and public institutions of higher learning (IPTA).

The move will also enhance teaching as a highly desired profession. In the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025, only recruits from the top 30 per cent of graduates in the country can become teachers.

Previously, trainee teachers from IPG and IPTA are guaranteed jobs as teachers without considering their performance. With the proposed change,  only candidates who are passionate with the job will be offered the opportunity.
