Neglected school ICT equipments

  • The lack of maintenance and administration caused a lot of information technology equipments supplied in schools unbeneficial to students
  • About 25% to 50% of the equipments worth more than RM500 million for the Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran Sains dan Matematik dalam Bahasa Inggeris (PPSMI) project from 2003 to 2008 were all unusable.
  • According to a source, 22,145 from 109,226 computers and 35,332 out of 122,641 laptops were not functioning after two years of usage.
  • 20,938 liquid crystal display (LCD) projectors out of 83,755, 3,792 printers and 984 servers were unable to use as well.
  • The ICT project is an effort by the government to equip ICT facilities to 9,900 schools in the country .
  • The reason of damaged equipments is due to the lack of maintenance and the physical condition of computer labs that exposed the equipments to rain and heat.
  • Deputy Minister of Education, Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said that he will provide his comments on this issue next Monday.
