  • Plans of building an Institute of Archaeology in Malacca with the help of the Institute for Conservation and Restoration (ICR) in Rome is currently in the pipeline.
  • Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustan said the institute would be allocated an initial grant of RM2 million from the Heritage Fund to carry out its operations.
  • The institute will train skilled workers in repair work and restoration of museum artefacts, painting and pottery. At present, Malaysia does not have an institute that specialises in this skill set.
  • The institute will operate as an academy before being upgraded to a skill institute.
