Beginning 2015, more Australian students are expected to study in Malaysia's higher education institutions. The Australian government has revised its Colombo Plan to enable Australian students to study and take internships in Indo-Pacific region. About 60 scholarships will be given away to qualified students.
Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said, “This move will be good for Malaysia and good for Australia. The world and the region has much to offer Australia. Malaysia has agreed to host our students,” he said in a speech while attending an education reception at the Grand Hyatt hotel last Saturday as reported by the Rakyat Post.
The former Colombo Plan supported 1,300 mobility program students and 40 scholarship holders to study in the four pilot locations – Indonesia, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong.
The new Colombo Plan now includes Malaysia, and 30 more host locations.
