A brand-new Monash campus is coming to Kuala Lumpur’s TRX district, opening in 2032 with cutting-edge facilities, research centres and more study options!

Monash University Malaysia has announced plans for a new RM2.8 billion (AUD$1 billion) campus in the heart of Kuala Lumpur! This marks the university’s largest-ever investment in world-class education and research in Malaysia.
The new campus, developed in partnership with TRX City Sdn Bhd, the master developer of Tun Razak Exchange (TRX), will expand Monash’s presence in Malaysia and strengthen its role as the University of the Indo-Pacific, and deepen Australia’s engagement with ASEAN through education and innovation.
Set to open in 2032, the future Monash Malaysia campus will accommodate 22,500 students and 1,700 staff beyond 2040, complementing the existing campus in Bandar Sunway.
Monash University’s Vice Chancellor and President, Professor Sharon Pickering, announced the development alongside Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Malaysia’s Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
Albanese said showcasing Australia’s best-in-class higher education sector overseas is a huge opportunity for Australian jobs and investment. "But it's also an important opportunity to extend deep connections in our region and right around the world.
“That's exactly what we're seeing with this investment from Monash for a new campus in Malaysia: students learning from one of Australia’s leading international universities right here in the heart of Kuala Lumpur."
The upcoming campus will also feature cutting-edge research centres in energy transition, health, AI and data science.
It will be located in Kuala Lumpur’s Financial District, home to world-class financial institutions. This strategic location aims to accelerate collaboration, innovation and employment-integrated education for students.
More than 35 new courses will be introduced in high-demand fields such as AI and cybersecurity, climate change and sustainability, digital health, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing and finance.
According to the President and Pro Vice-Chancellor of Monash University Malaysia, Professor Datuk Dr Adeeba Kamarulzaman, the expansion represents a bold step forward in shaping the region’s future in education.
“We will deliver world-class education at scale with an ASEAN futures focus on digital transformation, health, sustainability and green energy, and urban development,” she said.
TRX City Chief Executive Officer Datuk Sr Azmar Talib said the partnership with Monash University would enhance Malaysia’s competitiveness and talent development. “Monash University Malaysia’s city campus will enrich TRX’s diverse community and nurture the next generation of global thinkers,” he said.
Established in 1998 as Malaysia’s first foreign university campus, Monash University Malaysia now has over 11,000 students from more than 80 countries.
The new development is projected to contribute RM19.1 billion (AUD$6.5 billion) to Malaysia’s economy over the next decade through direct investment, research and workforce development.
Monash University continues to work closely with partners across ASEAN, including campuses and collaborations in Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and beyond, aligning with Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030 and supporting regional talent growth.
