Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) is discussing a proposal in which only those with the proper qualifications are registered as medical practitioners.
MMC and Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) have identified that Malaysian graduates from foreign universities without minimal entry qualifications have poor performance.
Many foreign universities have allowed students with less qualification to study medicine and this results in the deteriorating standards of medical graduates.
A recent study by the Ministry of Health (MOH) has shown that a significant number of house officers have had their postings repeated or extended due to their appalling performance.
To solve this problem, the Council is considering a proposal; to make all graduates from foreign medical schools sit for a licensing examination before they are granted registration in Malaysia. By doing so, the housemanship backlog issue that medical graduates are facing can be solved.
