Yesterday, the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA)and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) have joined forces to organise a workshop on accounting for teachers and counsellors in Klang Valley.
Held at the Pullman Hotel in Bangsar, the one-day workshop informed teachers and counsellors about the prospects of the accounting profession, which remains one of the most revered and in-demand professions in Malaysia.
The career prospects of tomorrow’s accountants was discussed in detail at the forum where the panellists comprise Johan Idris, President of the MIA; Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan, President of the ACCA Malaysia Advisory Committee; and Nuraini Ismail, Vice President of Treasury at PETRONAS.
Malaysia will need at least 60,000 qualified accountants to help the nation progress and achieve its aspirations by 2020. However, according to MIA’s latest statistics, we only have about 30,000 professional accountants in Malaysia. There is more to be done to groom the qualified accountants that we need. This seminar aspires to add to the nation’s efforts in developing Malaysia into a high income knowledge-based economy.
