For children who are at risk, the potential for making changes can be made. This task does not only involve adults but also includes a collaboration among young people and their families.
Addressing mental health issues starts from one's own attitude, followed by the ability and the quality of family and social support and later extending to mental health professionals.
Parents should also be sensitive to changes in their children's behavior. They need to be educated so as to detect any out of the box changes or temperament of the child so that treatment can be given immediately.
Over the past 10 years, Malaysia has seen the increase of psychiatrists specialising in both adults and children.
The psychiatric field is indeed challenging and it will be interesting to see significant developments since then as it continues to grow worldwide.
Courses related to mental health include medicine, psychology and counselling.
