Medical graduates are expected to wait for 6 months up to a year to obtain placements.
Medical graduate, Muhammad Faiz Hassan earns a living in fields unrelated to his medical studies, repairing cars and freelancing on wedding photography to support himself while waiting to be posted for housemanship.
Faiz, 29 is among hundreds of future doctors who are affected by the two-year backlog of housemanship placements in public hospitals.
He who graduated last year in October expressed his concerns in terms of his unstable financial situation and having to repay PTPTN loan without a job due to the delay of housemanship.
According to Malaysian Medical Association president Dr Ashok Philips, the current backlog was due to a shortage resulted from the government's freeze on posts.
