With the allocation of some RM2 billion, MARA will continue to sponsor outstanding students from disadvantaged families.
MARA will fully sponsor students from families earning less RM6,000 based on the condition of having an outstanding academic performance. Tan Sri Annuar Musa, the chairman of MARA, assured outstanding students that they will receive full support from Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) to pursue their studies in higher learning institutions managed by the organisation.
Some of these institutions include Universiti Kuala Lumpur, MARA Skill Training College, MARA Polytechnic College and the upcoming MARA university.
"We will fully sponsor students from families earning a monthly income of RM4,000 and below and those in the lower M40 bracket (income of up to RM6,000 a month)," Annuar spoke to reporters after the Yayasan Pelajaran MARA retreat over the weekend.
According to 2017's budget, MARA received RM2 billion from the government to continue its sponsorship programmes, particularly the Excellence Sponsorship Scheme (SPC). Additionally, the sponsorship for outstanding students to study abroad will continue. However, MARA would sponsor students to further their education in countries with lower tuition fees.
"With the RM2 billion provision we want to renew our commitment so that the main MARA sponsored programmes are continued" he said.
