Malaysians urged to read more books in English

  • About 60% of public university applicants this year scored low in their Malaysian University English Test (MUET).
  • Discomforted by the news, Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chung  has urged everyone to make reading a habit, especially books in English during the opening of [email protected] at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
  • A Malaysian reads an average of one book a month or 12 in a year. Despite the healthy reading diet, the Ministry of Higher Education feels there is still a lot of room for improvement.
  • “The English language is acknowledged as a factor that can enhance the employability of an individual.”
